WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO ATTEND & WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
Apart from normal weekly lessons both the Recreational &
Competitive Academy programs have a yearly program of competitions
& events. For Recreational
Program students, participation in competitive events is “optional”.
Each year a Calendar of Events is provided for all families.
If your child is eligible & ready to participate in a
competition, an entry form will be sent to your child approximately 8
weeks prior to the competition to inform parents of all the
particulars. All Competitions have a “closing date” for entries to be
received at our office. This is generally 3 –
5 weeks prior to the competition date. To be eligible to attend entries
must be forwarded to our office by the closing date. Late entries
Gymnast’s participating in competitions are expected to be attired
in the Compulsory Academy Uniform for their level. This information is
provided to registered
students in the Annual Amendments booklet or on the Academy
Noticeboard. If you are unsure of what the compulsory uniform is for
your child please check this with the office staff. The Academy office
only holds a small stock of some of the uniform items so if your child
needs a uniform please order these 6 to 8 weeks prior to the event.
Most Academy lycra garments are purchased directly via the Sylvia P
website – www.sylviap.com.au/team-wear
On the day of the competition it is important the
gymnasts are well presented. Hair should be neatly done with ribbons or
scrunchies for the girls in the
Academy colours (Navy, Aqua & White). Some girls’ competitions
require different coloured ribbons and you will be notified if this is
the case. It is also recommended
that gymnast’s bring their gym bag with a small bottle of water (no
juice, cordial or sports drinks are allowed in the gym). Warm clothing
(tracksuit) is also required in
the cooler months.
A Calender of Events is also
provided at the beginning of the year or when your child becomes a
registered student. See below for PDF download of the calenders.

WHY DO WE CONDUCT GYMNASTICS COMPETITIONS AT THE ACADEMY?
In house Academy competitions are pencilled into
our year to add variety, excitement, & to give the gymnast's the
opportunity to "show off" their skills to their families & friends.
Competitions are displays - Gymnastics is a sport and like all sports
some form of event is condeucted to display the activities.
Competitions serve many purposes in our program.
Sometimes participants win and sometimes they don't, but that's life
and something all children need to experience, to assist them in life's
journey. Competitions are healthy if the right approach is taken by all
concerned and competitions are views as "fun".
- It allows us to set goals in a time period
- A group can work together toward achieving something together
- The gymnasts can show off their new skills
- It provides an opportunity for personal development as the participants perform their routines to an audience.
- It is an opportunity to test for your level
badge at the coaches' discretion or improve the quality of the level
your child is currently at.

Lawnton Academy is committed to ensuring that all reasonable steps

During this Safety Week the coaches revise the Academy Safety
Rules, discuss “Safe-Active-Kids” strategies, revise the Gymnast's Code
of Conduct and also involve the children in Landing & Falling
safety drill activities.
Random fire drills are also conducted throughout the year. On the
sounding of the Fire Whistle all persons on the premises at the time
must evacuate to our designation marshalling area (the side car-park).
Presentation weeks are conducted for the majority of the Academy
